Participation in Indiana

In May 2023, the Howard County Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council (JRAC) submitted a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Program’s Bureau of Justice Assistance requesting intensive technical assistance to implement Justice Counts in Indiana. In that letter, the Howard County JRAC stated that it hopes to use Justice Counts to make “accessible data a permanent reality across the criminal justice system from law enforcement and prosecutors to courts and jails.”

What Leaders in Indiana Are Saying

“As the leader of my Local Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council, one of my goals is to help criminal justice stakeholders in my community look outside their silos and the way things have always been done utilizing data. Justice Counts provides a platform for everyone to tell their story using data no matter their level of experience and will allow all my community stakeholders to better participate in data-driven discussions and initiatives. Justice Counts is appealing because it levels the playing field and provides a means for everyone to bring agencylevel data to the table and have a voice.”

Hillary Hartoin, Court and Pretrial Services Director, Cass County
